The Medic Alert Foundation was originally founded by Dr M Collins and Mrs Chrissie Collins in 1956. after their daughter almost died following an allergic reaction to a routine tetanus antitoxin test.

Medic Alert was introduced to the UK in the 1960’s by the British Isles & Ireland Lions Clubs
The worldwide membership of Medic Alert is now over 4 million in about 40 countries.
In the UK there are over 220,000 Medic Alert members.

The Littleborough & District Lions Club, with the help of the Medic Alert Foundation, sponsors up to 3 local Medic Alert memberships annually via Doctor's surgeries or Group Practices in and around
Littleborough and Milnrow

WHO NEEDS MEDIC ALERT?
The reasons for wearing a Medic Alert Emblem are as follows.
You have: A hidden medical condition, an allergy, a medical implant, or are on regular medication.

WHAT HAVE I TO DO?
Normally your Doctor or Practice nurse will advise you and organise the application for membership.
It will, normally cost the individual around £35 for the bracelet or necklace.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The bracelet or necklace has a unique Membership number engraved into it, plus some brief details of allergy or on-going medication.
A card is also provided, on which further details are carried for, the member to keep in the wallet or purse.
In addition to this, and as a back up, the member's relevant details are put on a data base.
In the case of an accident or an emergency, the services can access any necessary information from Medic Alert by using the unique number on the bracelet or card.
